Ace Indian shooter Shreyasi Singh on Sunday has joined the BJP in Bihar. She joined under the presence of BJP Bihar’s unit chief Bhupendra Yadav and several others. According to several reports, it could mean that the BJP could provide her with a platform from the Amarpur or Jamui parliamentary constituency in the upcoming 2020 Bihar elections.
Former Union minister late Digvijay Singh’s daughter, Shreyasi is a native from Gidhaur in Bihar’s Jamui district. She participates in several national and international events such as the double trap event. In 2014, Shreyasi bagged the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland. Consequently, Shreyasi won the gold medal at the very event in the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Additionally, she was one of the participants of the Indian team that contested at the 2013 Trap Shooting World Cup in Mexico. She was the recipient of the Arjuna Award for her shooting skills in 2018.
According to India Today: “Shreyasi’s father was elected to the Lok Sabha several times from Banka and even served as a member of the Rajya Sabha. He was known to be close to Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar until the two had a fallout and snapped political ties. Putul Singh, Shreyasi’s mother, also served as an MP from Bihar’s Banka. Interestingly, the Jamui seat is represented by Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Chirag Paswan. The LJP has decided to contest the Bihar polls out of the fold of the NDA.” (sic.)
