Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took to twitter to speak about his meeting with the Hathras family. “I have instilled hope within them that we (Congress) stand by them and will never stop until justice is served.” He said.
Despite the brutal police mishandling that was done to both Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, they managed to meet the family. On Saturday Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met the family of the Hathras gang rape victim.
The Hathras incident involved a 19 year old Dalit woman brutally gang raped by 4 men and was murdered in one of the most barbaric ways possible. The police then cremated her body in midnight without any proper justice. This incident has led to huge shockwaves and vehement protests across the nation.
“No force can silence us,” Gandhi promised the media after the meeting the family. They also promised to keep pressurising the government until justice isn’t served to the family. “Wherever something wrong happens, we will be there to ensure justice is served. No one can stop us,” Priyanka Gandhi added.
This was their second attempt to meet the family after the first attempt was stalled by the UP police force. On Thursday, Both Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi were subjected to physical assault by the police force, who were guarding the Delhi-Noida border and weren’t allowing anyone to meet the family. This led to an altercation and Rahul Gandhi was pushed to the ground due to the chaos that had erupted at the border.
This time however, a massive force of approximately 200 policemen with some of them in complete riot gear were deployed at the toll plaza next to the Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) Flyover border. According to reports, this was done to prevent the Gandhis from visiting the family. However, this time the alleged plan did not seem to work and both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met the family. (Source: NDTV)
