Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Pandey starrer ‘Khaali Peeli’ movie change the name of their ‘Beyonce Sharma Jayegi’ song after a counterattack. Now this song is called ‘Beyonse Sharma Jayegi’. However, not much changes have been seen in the same, the meaning of it remains unchanged. This song was surrounded by lots of criticism after it was released on 7 September 2020.
The lines of the song ‘Ho Tujhe Dekh Ke Goriya, Beyonce Sharma jayegi’ consists of the word Goriya was prompting a racist dig at the American pop singer Beyonce. She is from African American origin. Beyonce is dark-skinned.
Goriya word has not been used for the first time in the film industry. The Black lives matter movements have on the rise nowadays therefore this word has been provoking the racist thoughts.
Khaali Peeli’s director Maqbool Khan had articulated about the song and said, “First, without any hesitation apologize we want to apologise to anyone offended. We assure you that the lyric in question was never intended racially. The term `Goriya` has been so often and traditionally used in Indian songs to address a girl, that it didn’t occur to any of us to interpret it in a literal manner.”
He had also mentioned, “Also the comparison with Beyonce is simply meant to be a street-smart guy flattering a girl who is trying to impress that her dancing and performance is worth comparing to Beyonce, whom we all see as the final word, the epitome of talent, beauty, performance, style and attitude. We are all huge fans, and there was never any question of disrespect.”
‘Khaali Peeli’ is made by Himanshu Kishan Mehra, Ali Abbas Zafar, and Zee Studios.
This is the first Bollywood movie which is going to be released in multi-format.
