After a brief shootout in the Delhi’s Dhola Kuan area, Police arrested Mohammad Mustakeen (alias Yusuf or Abu Yusuf) who is the ISIS suspect.
Police took him to his home in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur district two days after he was arrested in Delhi on Late Friday night. Police have recovered multiple explosive devices and at least two suicide vests, both primed for use in a terror attack.
The special cell also found ISIS Flag and documents related to the terror group.
On Sunday the cops got time till September 17 to file a charge sheet. It will include charges under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act).
According to ANI, the wife of ISIS Suspect said she wished her husband, who according to police had planned to carry out terror strikes in Delhi crowded areas on the instruction of his handlers in Afghanistan, could be forgiven. “I have four kids. Where will I go?” she said.
The father of Abu Yusuf said he had no idea about his son’s activities. His son was a “very good person” who never fought with anyone and that he never imagined he would take to terrorism.
He further added, “I have not heard anything about explosive material. If I had any idea that he was collecting explosive material, I would not have allowed Abu Yusuf to stay in my house,” according to news agency PTI.
Special cell took Mustakeen to his Balrampur residence to verify the claims he had made. Khan,who was arrested after a shootout from the section of the Ridge Road between Dhaula Kuan and Karol Bagh, was going to install the two pressure-cooker Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at “heavy footfall area” in Delhi, police have said.
Two pressure cookers, turned into IEDs (improved explosive devices) with 15 kg of explosives in them and a pistol with four cartridges was recovered from the accused when he was arrested, police said.
Among the items recovered were two jackets containing a total of seven explosive packets and a leather belt containing around three kilograms of explosives. The bombs have been safely removed.
In total around nine kilograms of explosives were recovered. A large assortment of electric wires, transparent tapes and lithium batteries were also found, as were cylindrical metal containers packed with ball bearings and containing more bombs.
The cops have said Mustakeem visited several places in Delhi ahead of a “lone wolf” attack.
“We had been conducting surveillance on him through sources. We also found he was in touch with ISIS and directly in touch with its commanders,” Mr PS Kushwaha Delhi DCP added.
A high alert has been sounded across Delhi and UP following Mustakeem’s arrest.
Notably, A doctor was arrested from Bangalore days before for the ISIS links. Abdur Rahman, 28, who worked as an ophthalmologist at a medical college in the city, was arrested by the NIA (National Investigation Agency) based on intelligence from a couple arrested in Delhi in March.
