A teacher has been arrested in the town of Raipur in Chhattisgarh, following the alleged rape of a minor. Maulana Mohammed Arshad Rehmani, a 25- year old man has been accused of this crime.
He had been visiting the alleged victim’s house, for the past 15 days. The man taught her younger sibling Arabic. He later began teaching the alleged victim since 8th August. His frequent visits for teaching the victim Arabic had led him to commit the heinous crime.
On Sunday, 9th August, he sexually assualted the girl, at her house in Raipur. The girl was alone at her house during this time. There were no family members to witness the incident. He later escaped from the house. Parents were later informed by their child about the abominable incident. The parents were shocked by what happened to their child and didn’t hesitate to contact authorities. It then led to a complaint filed by the parents, the police have said. Since the complaint, the accused had been arrested and taken under police custody.
The accused was arrested and booked under IPC Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Relevant Provisions have been made under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Officials have added that further investigated as underway and is still going on.
So far, the investigation has also revealed that, in the past, the accused had many times performed inappropriate behavior with the child.
According to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), 109 children were sexually abused everyday in the year 2018. This is 22% increase in the number of crimes as compared to 2017.
According to Priti Mahara, the director of Policy Research and Advocacy at CRY(Child Rights and You) said that although the increase in number of crimes against children is alarming, It also indicates a positive trend in reporting the crimes and people’s faith in the system.
