India adds 50,000 new COVID-19 cases for third straight day.

India reported 54,735 new cases taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 17,50,723 just 2 days after it crossed 16 lakh cases. For a third straight day, India recorded more than 50000 cases. The total number of recoveries currently stands at 11,45,629 taking the overall recovery rate to 65.43% as reported by the data from Union health ministry. India currently has the 3rd highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world behind the U.S and Brazil. With 853 deaths in the past 24 hours, the total number of fatalities stands at 37,364. 

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Andra Pradesh reported the highest number of cases as the virus continues to rage on. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh added over 9000 cases each in the last 24 hours. Delhi which was a hotspot for Coronavirus has witnessed a sharp decline in the number of cases in the past week. The national capital recorded its record lowest cases 613 earlier this week and boasts a recovery rate of over 89%.

The country recently entered unlock 3.0 where the government allowed interstate travel without restriction. Night curfew has been scrapped and gyms can open but Metro rail, schools, colleges will remain shut until August 31st. The state governments were allowed to impose travel restrictions to control the spread of the virus. Governments in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal decided to extend the lockdown in their state.
